Kirin Abbasi - Immigration Attorney in Houston
Founding attorney of Abbasi Immigration Law Firm, PLLC, Kirin Abbasi grew up in Houston, Texas. She is a proud Longhorn, having earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.
In 2015, Kirin Abbasi graduated from South Texas College of Law Houston, where she also interned with Aid for Victims of Domestic Abuse. It was during this time Kirin Abbasi found a passion for working with a diversity of individuals and cases.
She became a member of the State Bar of Texas in 2015 and since has extensive experience in Oil and Gas, Business and Employment Contracts, and Immigration Law. Ms. Abbasi is also a Certified Mediator.
Renato Scott Gutfreund – Sr. Attorney
Renato Scott Gutfreund is an attorney at Abbasi Immigration Law, specializing in employment, family, and investment immigration, including extraordinary ability petitions, National Interest Waivers, and investor visas.
With nearly 25 years of legal experience in Brazil and the U.S., he founded Gutfreund Law Firm in Florida in 2022 and previously served as Of Counsel at Widerman Malek PLLC, advising on immigration, investments, and cross-border business matters.
In Brazil, he led tax practices at Saviano Al Makul e Scott Gutfreund Advogados and NEJM, Porta Barros e Fonseca Advogados, focusing on tax planning, litigation, and M&A. He also served on the São Paulo Bar Association’s Ethics Tribunal in 2003 and worked at Bacardi USA.
Renato holds an LL.M. from the University of Miami and a law degree from Universidade Paulista. Licensed in New York, Vermont, and Brazil, he speaks English and Portuguese.

Sonya Herridge
Sonya joined Abbasi Immigration Law in 2026 as an Immigration Law Clerk, focusing on deportation defense. She holds a J.D. from Creighton University School of Law and an LL.M. from the University of Houston Law Center, along with undergraduate and graduate degrees from Houston-area institutions.
During law school, she gained experience through an immigration court internship, the Creighton Immigrant and Refugee Law Clinic, and the Jessup Moot Court Competition. She also served on the Editorial Board of the Creighton International and Comparative Law Journal.
She always aims to perfect her Spanish and German skills.
Sean Mehboob - Client Relations Director
Sean Mehboob is the Client Relations Director and co-founder of Abbasi Immigration law Firm, PLLC. He manages the firm’s operations and serves as the liaison for the firm’s clients and the attorney.
Sean has an extensive background in Client Relationship Management and Business Management. Sean is a long-time resident of Houston.
Also having attended the University of Houston-Downtown, Sean is well-versed and knowledgeable about the local demographic to better serve the firm’s clientele.
Yvette Gonzalez - Senior Paralegal
Yvette Gonzalez is the Senior Paralegal at Abbasi Immigration Law Firm, bringing over 18 years of experience in immigration, civil, and family-based matters. She has extensive knowledge of adjustment of status, waivers, consular processing, asylum, DACA, TPS, and EOIR filings, and is highly skilled in preparing complex forms, evidence packets, and legal documents.
Fluent in Spanish, Yvette frequently serves as a translator and interpreter for client meetings and hearings. Known for her professionalism and compassion, she maintains close communication with clients, ensuring they understand their case and feel supported throughout the process.
Lizbeth Sanchez - Paralegal
Lizbeth Sanchez was born and raised in Houston, Texas, to immigrant parents from El Salvador. Her upbringing inspired her passion for helping immigrant families.
She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Spanish from Houston Christian University and joined Abbasi Immigration Law Firm in February 2026. With a background in finance and customer service, she aspires to become an immigration attorney.
At the firm, Lizbeth assists with adjustment of status applications, fiancé visas, and family-based petitions, helping families navigate the immigration process with care and understanding.
Genesis Gonzalez - Paralegal
Genesis Gonzalez is an Immigration Paralegal with nearly six years of experience supporting clients in EOIR removal proceedings and USCIS family-based matters. With a strong background in client service, she focuses on creating a welcoming, compassionate experience for every client. At the firm, she assists with case preparation, filings, and ongoing communication to ensure each matter receives careful and timely attention.
